Working Out On The Go
After recently starting a new job, my schedule has changed quite a bit. Not only has my work schedule changed, but I have found it more and more difficult to take time to have a #HealthyIsHot moment each day.
I am used to my student life: waking up in the morning, eating some breakfast and then heading to the gym before starting my day. Unfortunately, like most people, that’s a luxury that isn’t possible during a busy workweek. Either you wake up before the sun to go to the gym before your morning commute to work, or you choose to work out after work when you’re exhausted. Either way… both are not ideal. But such is life.
My second job requires me to travel a lot. Travelling affects your whole body, your sleep patterns and eating habits. How do you fit working out into your schedule when you’re on the go?
It’s simple. Just do it.
Enough of my complaining, I’m here to tell you that no matter how busy your day is, no matter what is thrown at you, no matter how far you have to travel or commute every day, YOU DESERVE TO MAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF!
So here’s the deal, you adjust your workouts according to your schedule. If you know you have a busy day at work, take it easy. Kick-start your day with 20 mins of interval cardio training. If you know you have a more relaxed day, push yourself to get in a great leg workout. If you’re travelling, complete a quick 30 min full body circuit. Believe it or not, no matter how difficult it is to get moving, your body will thank you for it later.
YOU KEEP DOING YOU NO MATTER HOW FAST THE WORLD AROUND YOU IS GOING.
I’m here to tell you that it’s important to workout on the go, no matter what your situation is. I am preaching this because the last two weeks I have lacked motivation to do anything. I’ve eaten like crap, skipped my workouts and been lazy all around, and guess what? I feel like sh*t.
We are in this together. Join the movement and make time for a #HealthyIsHot moment each and every day. Because YOU AND I DESERVE IT!
Your to-do list is never-ending. You seem to keep adding more things to it than you ever cross off. You feel like Sisyphus, continually pushing the same boulder up a mountain.
You feel like there is so much to do that you don’t know where to start. So, you don’t start at all, which isn’t helping. And now your Shitty Committee is in full-flow and you’re criticizing and judging yourself for not doing more and being productive.
We’ve all been there.

Today, I don't have an article to share about improving your health or fitness. I'm not sharing my fave tips for staying productive, or the best exercises for building the glutes.
Today, I'm just here to say that it's completely OKAY to be where you currently are - in your fitness journey, in your career, and in your life - right. damn. now.
And just like that, it’s over. No goodbye, no conversation, no explanation. That constant in our lives no longer existed. It was part of our routine, our everyday. How could this happen? It was what we knew and some days it was all we knew. We scheduled it, we looked forward to it. And just like that, it’s over. Overwhelming sadness and heartbreak left us searching for answers. Asking and begging for it to stay. Offering everything we could to keep things going. As energy wore thin, passionate feelings turned to disappointment and anger. It was easier to avoid the questions and to hide away until we were ready to move on. Sounds like a bad break-up, doesn’t it? In a way, it was.
These were the emotions and reactions that filled the hearts and minds of many when our local fitness spot closed without notice or explanation. The place where we worked out, sweat, relieved stress, networked, got to know each other, no longer existed. We were forced to find somewhere new. This lead myself and many others from our fitness community down the path of exploration for what else existed out there.
So what makes the right HIH spot? That depends on you. Whether you’ve moved to a new city, you need a change or you’re looking to try something new, here are a few tips to consider for your next HIH spot.
Winter is the perfect time for getting busy in the kitchen & baking healthy treats! Take it from me when I say that this recipe is the place to start! What’s better than a mouthwatering, warm, chocolatey, crispy on the outside but chewy on the inside cookie that’s filling, satisfying, nutritious & absolutely DELICIOUS?
These cookies are made with simple real food ingredients, vegan, gluten, dairy, refined sugar, dairy, egg & nut-free! They’re full of plant-based protein, fibre, good carbs, healthy fats & naturally sweet flavour… basically, what I’m trying to say is that you can’t go wrong with them! The best part? You can feel totally awesome about eating these because they’re actually good for you & won’t give you the same spike & crash in blood sugar as store-bought oatmeal cookies.
Without further ado, let’s get right to the recipe. I’d hate to make you wait any longer!
From early infancy I have been a frequent flyer with trips back and forth to Ireland to see family, school trips, adventures with friends, and a (very) long distance relationship. Although I never used to have issues with flying, as I grew up so did my nerves surrounding traveling. I am writing this shortly after a trip to visit my father in France and some of these feeling are still quite fresh in my memory.
This past week I found myself heading to the airport, not for a junket, or a red carpet premiere, or anything related to my day job at Bell for that matter, but instead to moderate a half hour program in our nation’s capital celebrating International Development Week with key individuals making waves on the quest (a non-negotiable if you ask me) towards gender equality. Through my partnership with FINCA Canada, I was welcomed there with open arms in both French and English, by government officials, NGO leaders and incredibly inspiring youth from across the country in an area I felt more like a fish out of water than a professional host.
Behold, my High Protein Carrot Cake.
This is the kind of cake you can bring over to your Valentine’s house for a romantic night in and they’d NEVER EVEN GUESS that it’s actually healthy, too. (Like, 14g of protein per slice healthy…) It tastes so delicious, especially right out of the oven, and is the perfect combination of nutty, spicy and carrot-y. (Is carrot-y even a word?)
Meet Lauren Kurtz. She’s the founder of Apres Actif, an active lifestyle brand inspired by ski and snowboard culture, and Detox Social, a third party agency where influencers, brands, etc can outsource their social media. This girl’s hustle is like no others. She works hard each day to get her brand out there, and it shows! Healthy is Hot sat down with Lauren to chat about her morning routine, how she deals with Insta trolls, and why she likes to take showers longer than anyone you probably know!
It’s February, the month of love. Let’s take a moment for a little self love and check in with ourselves! We are two months into 2019 and I want to know how we are doing with our New Year’s resolutions. How many of us resolved to exercise more and get our #HIHmoment in daily, or a few times a week? How many of us are hitting our goals and how many are struggling? Whichever side of the fence you are on, it doesn’t hurt to have a few motivational words and some encouragement to keep going. So that’s what I’m going to give you today!
