Hit The Refresh Button
It's time to be real. Not that I haven't been honest about my journey up until this moment, but it's time to take it to another level and be completely honest with both you and myself.
I've lost my way. I've forgotten what "Healthy is hot" means to me. I got so caught up in how everything looks on the outside that I forgot to pay attention to what was happening on the inside. My sleep is off. I have an all or nothing attitude towards food and exercise. I am obsessed with the idea of success and perfection. I had to get sick to realize all of these things. Now, it's time to hit the refresh button.
I am willing to hit refresh as many times needed to ensure that I am healthy and happy. I am ready to change so that I can be the best version of myself. Healthy is hot means feeling great inside and out. It means being happy, grateful and soaking in everything life has to offer - including eating Nutella with a spoon guilt-free. Healthy is hot equals balance. Taking a step back from the craziness in life to breathe. It's acknowledging and doing something positive with each thought you have.
I want to be happy. I want to be healthy. I want to be successful. I want to do it for myself, and for those in my life who need me to be the best version of myself.
It's time to hit the refresh button.
Who's with me?
Anxiety affects a lot of us but it isn’t a “one size fits all" illness. It presents itself in wildly different manners for men and women across the globe. Sometimes, anxiety is pacing back and forth, fast breathing, and sweaty palms. Sometimes, anxiety is sitting silently in a chair with tears streaming down your face. Sometimes, anxiety is easy to recognize, and sometimes, you would never know about the inner struggle.
Is there any food more universally comforting than a bowl of soup?
If you ask Lola Adeyemi, founder of It’s Souper, she’ll kindly tell you probably not and offer up one of her four Afro-Fusion gourmet soups to put the debate to rest. With an accomplished background in IT and no food industry experience, apart from her love of cooking, Adeyemi was craving to share something with the world that would not only fuel her entrepreneurial spirit but also appeal to a diverse community, something everyone could share in.
Although summer may seem miles away, I thought I would get you a little excited about those hot days by introducing you to sailing. Now I am not talking about the captain’s hat and booze cruising sailing, I am talking about the physically demanding, mentally challenging, Olympic class sailing.
Sailing seems to have been in my life for as long as I can remember. My dad is a sailor, and a pretty great one at that. I am pretty thankful that he chucked me in a boat at a young age, and although I may have lost my favourite pink flamingo hat one my first outing, I soon fell in love with it and it has become part of my identity.
The sailing community in Canada is so close knit, and I was lucky enough to cross paths with Sarah Douglas a few years back when I was working in Toronto as the head coach at a sailing club there. At the time she was on the Ontario Sailing Team and I have been so excited to see her progress and be a total inspiration to young sailors across the country.
I was able to steal some time in her very busy schedule to get some questions in, and I hope you enjoy virtually meeting Sarah!
Let me know if any of these scenarios resonate with you.
Have you ever been stuck in a cycle of eating healthy throughout the day, and then indulging in treats later at night - leaving you feeling sick, bloated and powerless to your cravings?
What about those days when you're just SO DAMN BUSY that you're constantly finding yourself grabbing the most convenient food available instead of the most nutritious choice?
Or perhaps you’re just in a place in your life where you’re feeling a little complacent with your current nutritional habits and are ready to shake things up and get excited about eating healthy again?
If you’ve been nodding your head through any of these scenarios, you are not alone.
If there is anything that I have struggled with lately, it’s turning off my mind when it’s time to go to sleep. Does anyone else have this same problem? It feels like all day there is an energy deficit, and I am so sleepy… but of course, night hits, and all of a sudden I am wide-awake.
This affects me the next day in a few ways. Not only do I find it difficult to wake up, but I also hit a wall as soon as I get home from work where I feel the need to sleep right away. I have experienced this type of insomnia before during times of stress, and it’s easy to feel like this is out of my control.
As a chiropractor and fitness coach, I often ask patients and clients the following questions - Do you wake up the day after a workout feeling stiff and sore? Is your desk job a (literal) pain in the neck? Are you getting headaches after an upper body workout or a long day at work? If the answer is yes, there are many factors to consider – sleep, stress, hydration, nutrition, ergonomics and self-care, to name a few. One of them may be recurrent or chronic tension. If that’s the case, which for most people is at least part of the reason, it might be time to consider foam rolling as part of your daily routine. Your body will thank you!
What does your breakfast look like? What do you have for lunch? Is dinner your favourite time of the day? Today I’m letting you all in my kitchen to take your through what I eat in a day. On an average day, I have 3 BIG meals and probably anywhere from 3-5 snack breaks throughout the day. In this post, I am breaking down what I eat, what I cook, when I (usually) eat, and all that fun stuff (who doesn’t love talking about food?), so here we go!
You know the phrase “winner winner chicken dinner”? Well, it repeats in my mind whenever I cook this dish because everyone I have made it for loves it. Plus the recipe is so simple. Delicious + easy = a win in my book!
I typically make this dish for my husband and I as a post-workout meal during the week. It’s also a great option if you’re having friends over for dinner because you prep it the night before, leaving you free to socialize with your guests (because who wants to be cooped up in the kitchen the entire night?). And clean up is a breeze because it’s just one pan. I wasn’t kidding when I said this was such a win!

I am a huge fan of sleeping, and I love products that can help promote a good sleep.
Sleep is a crucial part of healing and your overall health, which is why I make sleep one of my wellness priorities.
Our body needs that time to heal and to rest, and when we neglect that base need we can see some very serious health issues.
Let me walk you through a few of the products that I would recommend that help me find deeper sleep!
