How I Get Sh*t Done: Chelsea Trevor

What’s it like to be a YouTuber? Not to be bias or anything, but this week’s ‘HIGSD’ is very special because i had the wonderful opportunity interviewing one of my favourite YouTubers, Chelsea Trevor! Chelsea is a 23-year-old lifestyle, fashion and fitness YouTuber based just outside of Toronto! Her weekly vlogs, fashion hauls, and get ready/get to know me’s are always super motivational for me, as i find her authenticity shines right through the screen! this week, i sat down with Chelsea to talk about her every day routine, her obsession with face masks, and how she got started with Youtube!

Q: Tell me a little bit about how you got started in YouTube and why you wanted to become a YouTuber? 

A: Before I ever started making youtube videos I was a dedicated subscriber to so many other YouTubers. Youtube was how I learnt to curl my hair, apply makeup, EVERYTHING. I would binge watch other YouTubers everyday when I got home from school. In high school I started to make videos. People in my school found out, and I got made fun of for it. I was way more self conscious back then, so I ended up deleting all those videos. Once I left high school I still had this constant urge to create videos, so I said "SCREW IT" and I started uploading them more frequently. As they say, the rest is history!

Q: What's your favourite thing about being a YouTuber? 

A: Basically EVERYTHING. I love having an online community of people who just seem to always love & support me. I love the freedom of being able to just "create". I love all of it.

Q: It's your average day- tell us your morning routine! 

A: I am NOT a morning person, but because I live with two dogs I am always up at around 8 am. I like to enjoy my mornings, so I always make myself a warm cup of tea & breakfast before I answer emails. Typically I head to the gym around 10am. I prefer this time as the gym usually isn't as busy. When I come back I either edit or film a video. On days when I have a PR Event in Toronto my whole schedule is usually thrown off! I work from home, though one of my goals is to eventually have an in home office. 

Q: What does your work/editing space look like? 

A: I’d love to say I have an amazing filming room, but I do all of my work in my tiny bedroom in my parents house. When it comes to editing I move around my room. Sometimes I'm editing at my vanity, & other times I edit on my bed. I like to be comfy when I'm editing so I ALWAYS change into sweatpants, it is mandatory.

Q: I’ve heard a lot of YouTubers say you need like a goal or a vision statement for their channel, what do you think yours is? 

A: I would say that I want to just inspire my viewers to be their best selves.

Q: What is your favourite way to get your sweat on? 

A: My favourite way to get my sweat on is by lifting weights. I LOVE lifting weights. It is the best stress reliever I have ever found. Leg days are definitely my favourite as they are usually when I push myself the most. When it comes to the booty, bench hip thrusts are the biggest game changer. 

Q: What's your bedtime routine look like? 

A: I take my makeup off typically as soon as I get home. I love the way makeup looks but I hate how it feels. I almost always put a face mask on. Both of my favourites are from Origins: Charcoal Honey & their Mega Mushroom Mask. I let myself watch Netflix until 10:30, then I usually read for an hour ( I love thriller books). I just recently got an iHome that plays ocean waves & it is a total game changer for my sleep.

Q: What do you want people to take away from watching one of your videos?

A: I want to just brighten peoples moods. I hope that when someone watches my videos they feel happier & more motivated. I want to help my viewers, just as they have helped me.

Q: What brand has been your favourite to work with so far in 2018 and what's brand would you love to collaborate with in the future? 

A: My favourite brand i've worked with in 2018 was definitely Puma. I went to New York City with them in January, & it was such an amazing trip. I got to do a workout class with the ballerinas from the NYCB, which was amazing. I would love to work with Lulu lemon, gym shark, the list is never ending haha.

Q: Being a YouTuber looks super glamorous, events, PR packages, filming videos, and more- what is something about being a YouTuber that most people don't know? 

A: I think what most people don't realize is just how much criticism you subject yourself to when you put your life online. I am very lucky that my audience is always so kind & supportive. Though I do still get rude & inappropriate comments on my videos from individuals. It can get weird sometimes having such a public life. 

Q: You're so genuine with your audience, which can be a rare thing for a YouTuber, why is that connection to your audience so important to you? 

A: I look at my audience as my friends, & so I treat them like they are my friends. I value them so much, I would never want to deceive them or not be 100% genuine with them. For me being honest with my viewers has always come very easily, & my audience has always responded so lovingly. Im VERY lucky for that.

Q: What's the biggest lesson you've learned so far? 

A: The biggest lesson that I've learnt so far is just to respect & value myself. When you learn to respect yourself, your whole life will change for the better.

Q: What does 'Healthy is Hot' mean to you? 

A: To me 'Healthy is Hot' means taking care of your body from the inside out. It means fuelling your body with healthy foods, exercising, & taking care of your mental health. Being health from the inside out, now THAT is hot!
