Come Grocery Shopping with Me

So I live with my parents, which means yes they still do a lot of the cooking and grocery shopping in the house (so so thankful). So this includes a lot of dinner and breakfast meals I consume. But once a week, I go grocery shopping for myself and I thought this week I would take you guys with me to show you what I like to buy for myself.

The reason I go grocery shopping for myself is twofold:

  1. I try to eat as healthy as I can (with a nice balance of not-so-healthy foods) so I like to buy certain food products that my parents do not buy (due to cost, or just because they don’t eat it). it helps me stay on track!

  2. It’s a self-care thing I like to do for myself. I find grocery shopping really relaxing (not for everyone but for me!) so I like to go on my lunch at work, get my steps in and buy some healthy foods!

I usually try to go shopping on Mondays, that way I can get the stuff I am missing or lacking of, and have it ready for the beginning of the week. I also really like shopping at Walmart, just because they have a great variety of health foods and fruits and vegetables, but if I need to just pop in and get a few things, it doesn’t really matter where I go shopping.

This week I bought:

  • Strawberries

  • Spring mix salad

  • Avocado

  • Lemons

  • Almond milk (my fave)

  • Granola bars

  • Grapefruits

  • Kombucha

When I go to the grocery store, I like to make a list of things that I need, not necessarily stuff I want. If I don’t make a list, it is so easy to wander off, picking things up that you probably don’t need and probably won’t eat. So I like to keep organized. Every product on my list has a place in my weekly eats so nothing gets wasted. For example, I buy lemons to use as dressing for my salads instead of packaged dressings. The treat is definitely kombucha as it can be expensive to buy in store, but it’s a staple in my routine!

Grocery shopping can be daunting for many, especially when you read HEALTHY, CLEAN EATS, MEAL PREP, everywhere on Instagram, but if you pick items you know you will enjoy eating, and make it an experience at the store and not a chore, then the whole outlook changes!
