Hi, I’m Nicole! In this week’s edition of How I Get Sh*t Done, I interview, well myself! Check out my morning routine, my favourite quote and why I love breakfast so much!
My morning routine ...
I am the biggest morning person you will ever meet. I work an 8:30 am to 4:30 pm office job that is about a 20-minute drive from my house (I am very lucky) so my morning starts around 6:45 am. I usually like to shower in the mornings, but lately, I’ve been showering at night so I have the time between 6:45 am and 7 am to just chill out, maybe lay in bed, look on my phone, get some stretches in. I get up, wash my face, brush my teeth and make my bed. I then go to my kitchen to make some breakfast and to get my lunch all ready for the workday. Then I’ll head back upstairs to my room with my breakfast and watch Netflix while I eat. Then I get ready (I usually lay out what I’m going to wear the night before). I kiss my dog Bella goodbye and head out the door!
Why I love breakfast so much...
I pretty much have the same thing for breakfast every day, even on weekends. I love eggs and will till the day I die. I think I could have an egg at every meal and I’d be happy. Scrambled, boiled, fried, poached, I LOVE IT ALL! My breakfast usually contains 2 soft boiled eggs and a tea. I will throw in half a grapefruit in there or swap out a tea for a smoothie with my eggs as well.
So as some of you may know, I do work in social media. I love everything social media but I do like to give myself breaks from it on the weekends and when I am out with friends and family. Right now I am doing a Snapchat cleanse. I haven't used the app in over two months and I’m feeling pretty good without it. I do cleanse or breaks from social media all the time just to clear my headspace.
My favourite way to get sweaty...
In the past four months, I have been sticking to two of my favourite kinds of workouts and they’ve been really working for me both physically and mentally. I have fallen in love with Pilates over the past two years. It is my favourite kind of workout ever and I do it twice a week at my gym. I also have recently discovered SHRED by Jillian Michaels. It’s a 30 minute go go go kind of workout and I love how fast it is.
To do lists or calendar?
I am a very organized person. I love having my week planned out, whether it’s my workout schedule or my social life schedule. I am a really big fan of what I call the big three- to do lists, dry erase calendars and chalkboards. I use all three of these to plan out my week usually. I like the to-do list and the chalkboard because crossing things off is so satisfying and the calendar keeps me up to date on everything going now until the end of the month.
Unwinding after a long day ...
Since I’m such a busy person, I do really value my unwinding time. After a long day, I love coming home to a good pair of sweatpants, a good snack, and a tea. I am also starting to love showing at night, it makes me feel like I’m scrubbing the day off.
My bedtime routine ...
I like to get at least 8-9 hours of sleep so that usually means I’m in bed by 10 pm. I like to do a face mask or get some stretching in before I crawl into bed and watch Netflix.
A favourite quote or mantra?
My favourite quote ever comes from Rumi and it’s; “Live life as though everything has been rigged in your favour.” It inspires me every day.
Also, my screensaver on my phone says, “You’re doing f*cking great,” and I really love the reassurance in that one.
Healthy is Hot means ...
Being healthy is about respecting and treating your body, mind, and soul with care. Taking care of yourself? Insanely attractive. Setting goals for yourself to improve and better yourself? Hot as heck. I feel so lucky to have found a brand that is so close to my heart and I want to spread the message that Healthy is Hot to everyone!
