It’s your average day - what does your morning routine look like?
I take my morning routine very seriously, because I firmly believe that it’ll make or break one’s day. I’ll wake up around 5:45am so that I have enough time to soak up the warmth of my covers and get out of bed by 6am. After quickly washing up and throwing on my workout clothes, I immediately make my pre-workout, so that it can start working in my system. That normally takes about 30 minutes to hit, and during that time, I will listen to part of whatever personal development audiobook I’m currently on, and I look over my vision board (which I made on Pinterest) & practice some gratitude. I’ve found dedicating this time in the morning to something positive and focused on my own growth sets up my mind for a super productive and happy day!
Then I crush one of my at-home workouts, which are 30-45 minutes. They’re amazing because I don’t have to factor in traveling to a studio to know I will get in a great sweat sesh! (if you’ve ever taken the MTA in New York, you understand!) I typically stick to lifting or HIIT because they’re my favourite, and the most efficient. If you can’t tell already, time-efficiency is EVERYTHING to me. I hate wasting time, so I do everything in my power to use all that I’m given! Once my workout is done, I shower and get ready for the day. Then I’m eating brekkie! I make an English muffin and a smoothie every day, because it’s so quick. Coffee-flavored superfood protein, ½ a banana, a sprinkle of cacao nibs, 4 large ice cubes, splash of almond milk, and the rest with water. Then I’ll start diving into my inbox with client emails, check-ins with my team, going into my community group pages on Facebook, and content creation. I’ll either work from my apartment, or a coffee shop if I really need to focus and hammer out tons of emails. I also work for Lululemon, so I try to dedicate my mornings to coaching work, and my evenings to them!
What began your passion for fitness?
I’ve always has a fascination with fitness and movement, but I think it originated out of my self-image issues from childhood. Even as a youngin’, I fell into the trap of believing that my value as a person was dictated by my appearance. So even as young as 12 years old, I was asking for a gym membership. Flash forward ten years to my junior year of college and a tainted body image along with suffering from untreated mental health problems; I attempted to take my own life. Thankfully, I was not successful, and realized I needed to make some major changes to my mindset and lifestyle. That’s where a dedication to my fitness came in, and once I started noticing how much it was helping my mental health, simply being able to show up for myself, that’s when the passion truly began. Then, I wanted to share that gift with others, leading to my decision to become a coach!
You’re an actress, choreographer, coach, artist- how do you keep so scheduled?
MY PLANNER! Gosh, I schedule everything and I love organization, so that makes my life a lot easier. It’s laid out hourly, so I put absolutely everything I need to get done in there. We all have 24 hours in a day, and each make choices as to how we spend that time. I choose to optimize the time that I’m given to do the things that fill my cup, and keep me fulfilled. Do I get to all of these things every single day? No, but I spend every Sunday night planning out my week ahead, from my work schedules to client calls to dance classes to auditions. When you’re doing things that you love, the density of your day doesn’t drain you. I also do myself a favour, and put everything in my phone calendar, too, just for safety.
What is your favourite way to get your sweat on?
I loveeeee to dance! Whether it’s something as technical as a ballet class, or fun and wild as a 305 Fitness class (think dance cardio meets going out in the Miami club scene) I get so much joy from moving my body creatively, and I do truly love performing, so this allows me to do that in a non-competitive environment.
You’re based in New York City - what are some go-to workout studios, gyms, etc you would recommend to anyone visiting the city?
SO MANY OPTIONS! Barry’s Bootcamp is an awesome workout & great vibe. Like I said above, if you want to have fun and get super sweaty, go to 305 Fitness! But also, go for a run along the Hudson downtown!! It’s so beautiful over there, and you’ll be able to see the Statue of Liberty, which is pretty cool if you’re visiting, and it’s also free!
You’re a self-professed adventure seeker- what’s the best adventure you’ve been on in 2018?
AUSTIN, TEXAS! My boyfriend and I went for our anniversary, and I fell in love with the city! From the food scene to Barton Springs to the people, it has such charm that I hadn’t seen from any other city I’ve visited. I also love that their motto is “Keep Austin Weird” because as a New Yorker, I resonate with that! I’d go there again in a heartbeat!
Do you have a favourite quote or mantra?
“You did not wake up today to be mediocre.”
How do you like to unwind?
I LOVE to cook! I find it to be very therapeutic, from the mindlessness of chopping vegetables to the creativity of seeing what’s in my fridge and how it’s going to turn into a unique meal. It’s one of the few things that gets my mind to stop thinking about work!
What does your bedtime routine look like?
Usually, I’m so tired that I fall asleep on top of my blankets because of how hot my apartment is! My nighttime routine isn’t too crazy though. Normally, just taking my makeup off with Micellar water and some tea-tree oil face wash from Trader Joes. Then I fall asleep pretty quickly after that because I am NOT a night person.
What does Healthy is Hot mean to you?
I think the way that one takes care of themselves is a reflection of how much they love themselves and how they treat others, so when someone is actively seeking self-betterment and reaps the benefits of it, their confidence radiates and that’s super attractive! Plus, when you take care of the inside, the outside reflects accordingly!
