Career Change Part 3: Prioritizing Self-Care

One of the biggest challenges of facing a new career or a new job that you really want to make a great impression at, is finding time to stay true to your healthy is hot moments. You may be finding yourself working on work at home or staying late at work to finish projects so that your new boss(es) see that you’re a hard worker and care about the projects you’re working on for them.

Before you know it, you find yourself in looking like a hot mess of stress that is absolutely burnt out. No bueno. Has this ever happened to you? Probably. It happens to the best of us. It even happens when we aren’t switching careers or jobs. The best way to ensure this doesn’t happen to you is to prioritize your healthy is hot moments. That means your self-care moments - whether it be yoga, a bath, reading or a sweat session – are non-negotiable.

One of the ways I personally love to keep track of the things I need to do are with a physical agenda. I’m a Kate Spade typa-gal so I always invest in the 18-month agendas at Indigo. These agendas make it easy to write down the busiest of days and it’s easy to flip through. I find writing things down engrains it into my memory so I remember it better and know it’s there in the back of my mind. If you’re not a writing person, use the calendar in your laptop and/or your phone. Since these can usually be synced, it’s perfect! You have no excuse to not get a reminder that pilates is at 7pm and you cannot miss it!

Another way I like to make sure I get to my healthy is hot moments is to choose things my body and I both enjoy. This makes getting up and leaving my project a lot easier and I won’t be using work as an excuse to skip out on a good self-care moment. Remember, healthy is hot moments aren’t always about getting your sweat on. It’s about taking care of yourself mentally and physically, so it’s important to feed your mind, soul and body. My healthy is hot moments range from reading good books, to taking an Epsom salt bath, to getting my sweat on and more! It can literally be anything!

A third way I like to ensure I’m eating healthy and staying on budget (which keeps my stress levels down), is meal prepping! This is on a lot of people’s to-do lists these days and rightfully so! Meal prepping is such a great way to ensure you stay on budget with your weekly grocery lists, have food ready for most of the week and avoid eating out as a result. That also means if you have a job where you can go out for lunch every day, you won’t have to leave the building, get to enjoy your meal and head back to work earlier than if you went out so you can get your project completed sooner rather than later. One less excuse for staying late at work!
