How I Get Sh*t Done: Lauren Kurtz


Meet Lauren Kurtz. She’s the founder of Apres Actif, an active lifestyle brand inspired by ski and snowboard culture, and Detox Social, a third party agency where influencers, brands, etc can outsource their social media. This girl’s hustle is like no others. She works hard each day to get her brand out there, and it shows! Healthy is Hot sat down with Lauren to chat about her morning routine, how she deals with Insta trolls, and why she likes to take showers longer than anyone you probably know!

What is Apres actif?

Après is an active lifestyle brand inspired by ski and snowboard culture. I created the brand as a means to distill valuable information that I’ve learned over the years as a fitness competitor and as an entrepreneur. I wanted to create a supportive community to inspire confidence and reduce anxiety as those were two major issues I had to overcome to get to where I am today. I have created a line of limited edition streetwear as a means to connect with my followers offline and share in another one of my passions: design.


It’s your average morning, tell us what your morning routine looks like?

I wake up anywhere between 5-7am depending on the day. Every morning I drink 1L of warm water before I do anything else.  Then (unless I'm travelling) I choose between one of two breakfasts: Oatmeal + egg whites with almond butter, or ezekiel toast with 2 eggs and a laughing cow cheese. I work at my computer from 7-9 and head to the gym for 10am after my coffee.  Post-workout I head home to shower and continue to work from home.

What is your favourite way to get your sweat on?

Circuit training.  It allows me to change my work out every single day and avoid hitting a plateau. I also love my Tabata timer app to ensure I'm not taking too much rest between sets.


Instagram is a great place to share content, but it can be seriously discouraging with mean comments and trolls. How do you stay away from the hate and stay so positive?

I have been very lucky in that I haven’t received much hate - that being said, I think it’s important to not let that trigger you.  Just take a deep breath, understand that you cannot let the opinions of others dictate your actions, and keep moving forward. 

What does your bedtime routine look like?

I start my bedtime routine around 9pm.  I make a tea and my Calm magnesium and head upstairs to use a combo of Alumier and Vivier skincare. I also turn on my heating pad to warm my bed. Then, I brush my teeth with coconut oil toothpaste and take a hot shower.  I'm usually in bed by 10pm, listening to my Calm app bedtime story and passed out by 10:30pm.

How do you unwind after a busy week/day?

I take long too long.  I do my best creative thinking in there for some reason it’s quiet, without any distractions and no access to my phone.  I also have moments where I turn my phone on airplane mode so that I can completely Zen out and spend time with my family.  I very rarely watch TV, but my ideal unwind evening includes my heating pad, a good book, and calm app meditation.


What is something about yourself people may not know?

I am left-handed and I have a dual citizenship for Canada and Ireland.

What does Healthy is Hot mean to you?

It means owning your journey and sticking to your goals.  It means worrying less about what people think and focusing on #1.  Healthy = confident, and confidence is HOT.
