Thinking About Going Back to School? Read this First..

It was November 2016. I walked out of my post-grad program for the last time feeling a huge sense of relief. I knew that this program wasn’t for me, & it was extremely obvious that I had to quit.

Fast-forward two years…

This day started to replay over and over in my mind. What would have happened if I had stuck it out and continued my post-grad studies? Could I find something like it in the parts that interested me?

That’s exactly what I did. I just finished an introductory News Studies class this past April, and I’m so happy with that decision.

Are you feeling as confused as I did? Here are three things to consider before going back to school as a mature student:

  1. Class vs. Program: Is a full out certification necessary to advance your career? Are you learning more to learn and upgrade your skills? You may find that taking a class (like I did) is just the right fit.

  2. Regret: I spent the last two months of 2018 consumed with regretting my past choice to quit the college certification I was in. Will you regret it if you don’t give school a chance?

  3. Lifestyle: My current schedule is able to accommodate a weekly evening class, but this isn’t the case for everyone. Are you currently working a job that is flexible enough to integrate schooling? What does this look like within your day-to-day routine?

I hope that these words shed some light for anyone who is having trouble deciding to return to school. Remember that learning is a lifelong process, and investing in yourself is always worth it.

Stay healthy, stay happy,

Sofia
