This was a recipe I stumbled upon, of course on Pinterest, when I was looking for a quick, easy, and healthy recipe to snack on while at work or pre and post workout. It’s “Apple Pie” Oat Bars! The recipe is so simple and tasty and was actually posted by a mother to help have her little ones have a healthy treat. I thought, why not try it out?Read More

Is there any food more universally comforting than a bowl of soup?
If you ask Lola Adeyemi, founder of It’s Souper, she’ll kindly tell you probably not and offer up one of her four Afro-Fusion gourmet soups to put the debate to rest. With an accomplished background in IT and no food industry experience, apart from her love of cooking, Adeyemi was craving to share something with the world that would not only fuel her entrepreneurial spirit but also appeal to a diverse community, something everyone could share in.Read More
What does your breakfast look like? What do you have for lunch? Is dinner your favourite time of the day? Today I’m letting you all in my kitchen to take your through what I eat in a day. On an average day, I have 3 BIG meals and probably anywhere from 3-5 snack breaks throughout the day. In this post, I am breaking down what I eat, what I cook, when I (usually) eat, and all that fun stuff (who doesn’t love talking about food?), so here we go!Read More
You know the phrase “winner winner chicken dinner”? Well, it repeats in my mind whenever I cook this dish because everyone I have made it for loves it. Plus the recipe is so simple. Delicious + easy = a win in my book!
I typically make this dish for my husband and I as a post-workout meal during the week. It’s also a great option if you’re having friends over for dinner because you prep it the night before, leaving you free to socialize with your guests (because who wants to be cooped up in the kitchen the entire night?). And clean up is a breeze because it’s just one pan. I wasn’t kidding when I said this was such a win!Read More
So last weekend, I was home alone for dinner and didn’t really know what to make. My parents were out for dinner so I didn’t have a lot of leftovers, and I didn’t feel like ordering in. It was a pretty chilly night, and I wanted something that would give me all the warm feels I needed to stay comfy and cozy! I really felt like pasta, but we had no pasta sauce on hand. So I looked at the ingredients I had in the kitchen, and whipped up this delicious and easy lemon shrimp pasta recipe that I can’t even believe I made myself! It turned out so well, it was so good and pretty healthy if I say so myself!Read More

Have you ever tried food journaling? Tracking what you eat and when. Sometimes people do this as a useful way pin down food sensitivities they might be experiencing and discover patterns. Most often people do it to stay accountable with what they eat in order to achieve weight loss.Read More
This feature is a favourite of mine! CEDAR Juice is a product I discovered after my hot pilates class at a Loblaws just across the road, since then I have been enjoying their products as pre and post workouts. My personal favourite at the moment is their Activated Charcoal Lemon+Aide, it's a perfect detox. I hope after taking a look at this Q&A with responses from Calvin and Vipin from CEDAR Juice that you too enjoy their yummy and energizing juices, kombuchas and spreads.Read More
Let’s talk about protein. It doesn’t really need an introduction. most of us know that it is one of the three major macronutrients that make up your diet (the other two being fat and carbohydrates).
From supplements to energy bars, there are hundreds of products where we can get our protein from. there are even diets completely based on upping your protein game, such a the paleo diet.
We also get protein from meats, such as chicken, pork, etc. This is my least favourite kind of way to get protein. I like meat, but i’m not a big meat eater. I basically have cut red meat, and lean more towards fish and seafood. The problem with that, well, is sometimes I feel like my body isn’t getting enough fuel to properly function throughout my day.Read More
Winter is the perfect time for getting busy in the kitchen & baking healthy treats! Take it from me when I say that this recipe is the place to start! What’s better than a mouthwatering, warm, chocolatey, crispy on the outside but chewy on the inside cookie that’s filling, satisfying, nutritious & absolutely DELICIOUS?
These cookies are made with simple real food ingredients, vegan, gluten, dairy, refined sugar, dairy, egg & nut-free! They’re full of plant-based protein, fibre, good carbs, healthy fats & naturally sweet flavour… basically, what I’m trying to say is that you can’t go wrong with them! The best part? You can feel totally awesome about eating these because they’re actually good for you & won’t give you the same spike & crash in blood sugar as store-bought oatmeal cookies.
Without further ado, let’s get right to the recipe. I’d hate to make you wait any longer!Read More
Behold, my High Protein Carrot Cake.
This is the kind of cake you can bring over to your Valentine’s house for a romantic night in and they’d NEVER EVEN GUESS that it’s actually healthy, too. (Like, 14g of protein per slice healthy…) It tastes so delicious, especially right out of the oven, and is the perfect combination of nutty, spicy and carrot-y. (Is carrot-y even a word?)Read More
At this point, I think it’s safe to say that we are all aware how bad sugar is for us. I’m sure that some of you may have even set yourself the goal of ‘cutting down on sugar’ as part of your new year’s resolutions. Well, unfortunately for us, removing sugar completely from our diets is an uphill battle. From granola, to tomato sauce, to salad dressings, to smoothies - sugar has a sneaky way of creeping into our diet, even if we are trying everything we can to avoid it.Read More
For my first post, I thought I would tackle a subject that is near and dear to my heart: protein bars (without 100 ingredients and ones you can actually pronounce!) While I’m a big advocate of choosing foods in their natural and whole state whenever possible, sometimes we have to turn to alternative options when work, school, family (aka LIFE) gets in the way and disrupts our best laid plans. With that said, here’s a guide to some of the most popular bars on the market. I hope you find this information helpful in your quest to eat healthier, no matter what life throws your way!Read More
This Chicken Soyaki macro bowl is the perfect balance of protein, carbs and fat. It’s crisp, fresh, flavourful and absolutely delicious - like taking a bite out of a chicken summer roll, without the rice paper. Try this recipe the next time you want to shake up your lunch meal prep routine!
Getting back into the swing of things in the new year is never fun, everyone is tired, sick and coming off of a major sugar high. To help me bounce back from the mountains of cookies I’ve consumed over the last month and bikini body ready in 3 weeks (gasp) I’ve started following the Fab Four principles set by Kelly Leveque; focusing my meals around fat, fiber, protein and greens.Read More
If you read my article last month about healing my body after years of diet abuse, you know I laid bare my broken and sick body and my deep desire to be healthy, to be mentally alert, to feel strong and in control and eventually get back in the gym enjoying lifting weights. I really wanted to touch in with Healthy is Hot readers and give you an honest update of where my journey is at and if these changes are working for me. What I am currently working on as a part of my healing process is a sustainable relationship with food. To be active, to be healthy, you need food. To think clearly, to perform in any way you need to fuel your body.Read More
